In Singapore, National Day is celebrated with great pomp and parades. All across the island, there are spectacular shows, fighter jets flying over the city, and helicopters carrying the national flag. For the kids, it’s always an exciting experience. These traditions create a strong sense of community, which reminds me of my time in Austria. However, National Day isn’t celebrated quite as grandly there.
The Importance of Social Events
Social events are extremely important, both for team building and motivation. Last week, we had a table tennis tournament at my company – the first social event in a long time. Everyone formed teams, and there were great prizes to win. I won, but I had a slight unfair advantage as I signed up last and was able to secure a strong partner. But in the end, we gave the prize away, and the whole team was happy.
The Importance of Fun and Community
This table tennis tournament reminded us how important it is to have fun and not just focus on work. In the last few months, we neglected this due to many challenges and intense work focus. Such events don’t cost much, but they bring immense joy and strengthen the team. People are competitive and, of course, try to beat the CEO – luckily, that didn’t happen with us!
