On this Sunday, Day 54 of the 90-Day Comeback Challenge, I’m answering a very personal question: Why do I live in Singapore? Would I live here if the company wasn’t here? In this video, I share my reasons why I moved to Singapore 8 years ago, what has changed since then, and where I would move today.

The Journey to Singapore

Originally, I came to Singapore from Hong Kong nearly eight years ago because Singapore was very crypto-friendly at that time. That has since changed. Singapore was too crypto-friendly and underestimated China’s influence, which has led it to become one of the stricter jurisdictions in the world today. Whether Singapore is still the friendliest region for crypto, I doubt it. Other regions, like the Middle East, might be easier and friendlier.

My Values and Needs

Over time, however, I have come to appreciate the advantages of Singapore and certain values here. I’m 38 years old, married, and have a family. The kids go to kindergarten, and I need structure. Spending six months in Europe and six months elsewhere, like many people do in Dubai, doesn’t work for me. I need stability, contract security, low corruption, high security, and traditional values. I want to avoid socialist or extremely religious values.

Why Singapore?

Singapore ticks all these boxes for me. It offers a business-friendly and investor-friendly environment. When the economy is doing well, the people are doing well. This is something that is often underestimated in many North American and European countries. Singapore offers stability, contract security, and low corruption.

Comparing Other Countries

Of course, I have also considered other regions. South America and Africa are not options for me. North America, especially the USA, would be interesting, but it’s a no-go for my wife. Europe currently seems to be on a downturn, although I would be happy if that changed. Switzerland is a possible option, but it also has some drawbacks. Hungary is doing a lot right at the moment, but the language barrier would be a problem.

Asia as an Alternative

In Asia, I considered Japan and Korea, but the language barrier is also a problem there. Hong Kong, where I originally came from, would be an alternative. However, Singapore remains my first choice. It offers predictability, stability, and a pleasant climate. The disadvantages, such as the distance to Europe and the consistent climate, are acceptable to me.

Conclusion

As long as nothing fundamentally changes in Singapore, I will stay here. Singapore offers my family and me a stable and safe environment. It’s ideal for my business and personal needs. If you have any questions or want to share your opinion, let me know. Remember, you are not a tree – the environment is extremely important. Set it up in a way that works for you.

See you tomorrow for Day 55!
