How do you do follow-ups properly and ensure that the team achieves its goals? Why is Thursday a typical “follow-up day” for me and how do the processes work internally? Find out in this article.
The Typical Thursday
Thursday is always my follow-up day. This means I check to see if everyone on the team is on track and that no important tasks have been left behind. I do this internally with my team and externally with various contacts. Here’s what my typical Thursday looks like:
- Morning Preparation:
- I start my day at 5 AM and go through my notes made throughout the week. These are mainly reminders and tasks that need to be completed today.
- At 7 AM, I check my emails and Slack messages that came in overnight. Often these are reminders for tasks that need to be done today.

- Internal Follow-Ups:
- I review the progress of my team based on what we discussed in Monday’s meetings. The aim is to see if everyone is on the right track or if there are any blockages.
- I ensure that I assist the team leads where needed without micromanaging. It’s important to manage the process and outcome, not the individual team members.

- External Follow-Ups:
- External follow-ups are also crucial. Here, I send reminders and ask for updates from people I’ve been in contact with during the week. Sometimes a simple reminder suffices, other times you need to follow up more assertively.
Tools and Methods
I keep my tools relatively simple:
- Email Reminders: I use simple follow-up tools to stay organized.
- Notes: I constantly make notes and update them regularly.
- Slack: Slack reminders are also helpful to ensure nothing is forgotten.
I’m not a fan of complex project management tools. Everyone has their own preferences, but I find simple tools usually do the job.
Reflection and Outlook
Next week, we’ll reflect on the first third of our 90-day game plan. So far, things are going great at the company; the team is motivated and focused. The crypto market isn’t making us happy right now, but that’s beyond our control.
See you tomorrow!
